Somehow the idea popped into my head today that moving to Hawaii would be a good idea. Well it kinda started last night when my mom said we should go away for a few days in November some place warm. I wasn't overly excited about just going to Florida where I have been many times and we are running pretty close on time to get our passports renewed without paying the really high fees.
Then this morning I thought- Hawaii! No passport needed and the weather is warm year round. Plus we have never been. That started a few hours of internet research about what to do there and then it became this looks amazing I should move. Liz immediately agreed, so I started looking at apartments.
It turns out Hawaii is not just one of those places you pack your bags and move to the next day. On the surface its not all that much more expensive than living in DC or NY but there is the cost of getting there (and getting all your stuff there) which is quite high. Plus first and last months rent and the cost of staying somewhere until you have your own place. I think you should probably have a job secured before moving there or a lot of money in the bank. Its not like picking up and moving to NM. Unfortunately. Because it looks absolutely beautiful and the thought of coming home to my apt and sitting on my patio with an amazing ocean view is very tempting. Maybe someday but it won't be tomorrow for Liz or I. If we start saving our money now and applying to jobs there who knows what the next few months could bring....
The only drawback I read about Hawaii was that there are flying cockroaches outside and even if you keep your house or apt clean they are still around inside. Even though I hate and am scared of most bugs this does not deter me from wanting to live there.
There is a much larger part of me that wants to stay within a few hours of my family in NY than there have has been in the past but then I wake up and think I should move to Hawaii! If I were rich I would move some place new in the world every couple of years. I could afford to come home whenever I wanted and I wouldn't have to worry about finding a job everywhere. I could be a full-time volunteer wherever I moved to, cause it would get boring have nothing to do all the time. Not that i spend much time thinking about these things.
First place I would move to if I were rich- Australia, followed closely by Hawaii....

Me and the Mouse
I have been living out in the country now for about a month. I didn't realize when i took this job exactly how far out in the country my house would be but here i am on a dirt road and in between two large fields (one field over has cows on it most of the day).
When Aatisha was here this weekend she said, " i know you said you were in the country but i didnt think you meant like this!."
Its actually very pretty and peaceful, the mountains are behind the property and daily i usually see the momma deer and her two twins eating right out in the field. Deer are overpopulated here as well like back in NY, there are way too many of them i'm told but i still enjoy seeing them especially the babies.
Well last Sunday (around 11:30 or 12) i was walking up the stairs to my bedroom when as i get towards the top of the stairs i see a little mouse scamper from under my dresser to under my bed. I dont scream but but definitely used a couple of words of profanity. All i'm thinking is its so late i cant call my boss so her husband can come over and get rid of this thing, so i'm stuck with it all night. I immediately call Aatisha (we had just been on the phone so i knew she was still awake) to find out what to do with this mouse, which is still under my bed.
As she looks up things you might normally have in your house that mice dont like the smell of (moth balls, ammonia, peppermint oil) none of which i had of course, the mouse runs out of my room into the closet and back rooms of the upstairs. I quickly slam my bedroom door and build a wall of pillows so it cant get back under the door. Not being a huge fan of small critter or insects i finally calmed down a little and fell asleep. I took some comfort in that the mouse was pretty small and kinda cute.
The next day i called my boss and told her about the mouse and she said she would get her husband over here to put some traps down and find out how it got in. So i came home the next day and there were the traps and i guess there were some holes around the pipes upstairs which were in the process of being fixed. I did not see the mouse anywhere so I thought ok maybe its gone. I go to get in bed and what do i see on the edge of the inside of my pillow case but a mouse poop. And there was a spider in my bed....
Well that was a very rough night needless to say but in the morning there was still no caught mouse. So i come home the next night and again no sign of the mouse and no poop in my bed, so again i try to convince myself maybe the mouse is gone now. I awake in the morning, check the traps again and nothing.
I come home that night feeling more confident the mouse is gone and i sit at the kitchen table working on my laptop. Out of the corner of eye i see something start to scamper towards me, its the mouse running right towards the table to get the radiator underneath it. Ok this time i screamed and jumped up. This time i called my boss cause it was still early enough and her husband told me where to move the traps so they were more strategically placed. She said if i bang pots around and make noise the mouse wont come back out. So i finally calm down and assure myself the mouse wont come back out and sit back down to work. Every few minutes i stamp my feet, look under the table and bang a pot with a spoon. Very productive night.
I awake in the morning and cautiously walk through the house to see if i can find this mouse. He's not in any of the traps. I slowly walk into the kitchen and while hes not in any of the traps there either, my kitchen table has several mouse droppings on it. That night i cleaned the whole kitchen very well.
Since then i haven't seen the mouse, or any sign of him thankfully. I am still checking the traps cautiously every day though. I really hope he just got out the way he came in because to see him stuck to one of these traps, would make me feel bad for him even though i dont want him in my house.

My First Blog
I have never blogged before but one of my friends has been blogging for a while and it seems like a good way to keep in touch with people and to reflect a little on life. I will try my best to keep it interesting.
When writing informally i dont typically follow correct grammar or punctuation rules. If that kind of stuff annoys you, you should probably stop reading. Dont worry, i do know how to write and punctuate properly when writing formal papers and so on.
Anyways i'm off to bed tonight as i would really like to get up early to go to for a run- more to come soon!
